High speed satellite internet allows you access to the internet from almost anywhere. High speed satellite internet consists of the reception dish with it’s transponder and the modem which connects your computer to the internet. Pricing for satellite internet runs around $40/mo not including the extra cost of installing the satellite dish. Some users choose to go ahead and install the satellite dish themselves thus saving on the installation cost and some companies offer free installaton too.
The satellite provides internet service for people who live in remote locations without access to cable and fiber optic lines. High speed satellite is faster than dial up modems and dsl which can take up to several hours to complete a download. I rember when using a dial up modem downloading software and having it take 3 hours. Remembering that you have to say that hardly anyone using the internet yearns for the good old days.
Satellite high speed internet is available world wide and is used by many on their motor homes and sea going yachts and sail boats. Satellites always on like cable so you can quickly check your email or go online fast. High speed satellite connections have become very popular and can even use the voip technology depending on the location.
The users ability to play online games and voip may be effected by latency which can vary from location to location as well as being effected by the weather or clouds and in some cases tree branches in the RV park blocking the satellite signals path. Latency simply is the amount of time it takes for your signal to go from your computer up to the satellite be sent back to the land station and then to the internet and then back to the station, to the satellite and finally back down to your computer.
It really does not take very long and with regular technology improvements it is getting better and better. We have all watched
reporters on the news who regularly broadcast via satellite and have a slight delay now and then. That is caused by the latency effect and as you probably noticed it is not always a problem. The news connection is the most complicated connection ie: video conferencing so the upside is that even with some inconvenience now and then all in all satellite high speed internet is a very convenient and productive tool.
